Arizona Commission for the deaf and the hard of hearing

  

      ACDHH was established in 1977 to improve the quality of life for Deaf and Hard of Hearing residents. ACDHH serves as a statewide information referral center for issues related to people with hearing loss. ACDHH aspires to be a national leader in communication access, support services and community empowerment throughout the state. Our mission is to ensure, in partnership with the public and private sectors, accessibility for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind and persons with speech difficulties to improve their quality of life.

         ABIL is the program contractor for the AZ Freedom to Work Statewide Work Incentives Planning and Assistance program funded (50%) through a $300,000 annual grant from the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Department of Education/Rehabilitation Services Administration and other contracts and grants. Our Community Work Incentive Coordinators are trained and certified to understand Social Security rules related to employment and how employment earnings affect cash, medical and other benefits.

          Social Security’s Ticket to Work Program is free, voluntary and available to most people who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits because they are disabled or blind.  Eligible beneficiaries may choose to assign their Ticket to an Employment Network (EN) of their choice or to a State Vocational Rehabilitation (SVR) agency to obtain employment services and supports necessary to achieve a work goal.  The EN/SVR, if they accept the Ticket, will coordinate and provide appropriate services to help the beneficiary find and maintain employment.
